Thirsk and Old Malton men’s 1st team started the home game against Brigg in a confident mood after last week’s great team performance, when they out played top of the table and unbeaten hull team and earned a 5-2 victory to go back to 2nd place in Yorkshire div 2.
Due to unavailability’s the side was much changed so it took a while for them to sort out positions and play was a bit disjointed. With 10 mins played a good break from midfield saw the ball go out wide left and the cross into the d was just fractions off the end of a stick ,this was how play went for the next 10 mins they just could not find that final touch .
With 24 mins played and Harry Hogg now instrumental in build-up play, good interplay saw Harry just in the D and his strike found the bottom corner. This now settled the home team and within 3 mins Harry got his and the teams 2nd.
Just before half time harry Hogg completed his hat-trick.
The second half began with the home side pushing forward at every opportunity and within 4 mins they add to their advantage when a smart routine at a short corner saw Tom Brough score.
The fifth goal was a fantastic bit of hockey by man of the match Harry Hogg having received the ball just inside the Brigg half he drove past three defenders into the D and with a rocket shot left the keeper with no chance as the ball flew into the top corner. The home side now took the chance to change the shape of the team and let the younger player take a leading role, the defence of Tom Brough, Dominic Coates and Dave Pickford where rock solid so much that goal keeper Tom Bumby only touched the ball once all game.
The good work by Harry Collinson and Harry Goodall in midfield now paid off with Dan Lawson rounding off a move with a close range tap in.
The work rate and effort by all who took part is to be commended for this result keeping the team in the second promotion spot in div 2 of the Yorkshire league.
