Having finally found our feet in the last two outings, the thirds braced themselves for another challenging afternoon. York fielded a young University team who were quick with a particularly strong centre forward and they soon brought the game to us. Our robust defending stood firm until an unfortunate tackle resulted in a flick awarded and a lesson in what to do when your goalie is not on the pitch to defend a flick. Olivia stepped forward and volunteered to pad up and on we went one man down. The flick was well taken and found the top corner of the goal despite her best efforts. There then followed a period of intense whole team defending which held them at bay for a while but we eventually conceded another goal before Emily was returned to us. At half time Eleanor was given the unenviable task of marking out the centre forward which she did brilliantly but the player managed to notch up another 2 before she was finished. The play wasn't all down our end, we had some good through balls and lovely runs by the midfield but this week we were unable to convert any of them into goals and so the scoreline perhaps does not really reflect the balance of play. Thirsk 0 City of York 4.
Another good team effort giving 100% right until the end of the match. Well done everyone.
