THIRSK U16 Girls EHB Sunday 10th January.

Mike Rushmere10 Jan 2016 - 20:28

Finally the girls got to play the 1st round of the EHB cup at Leeds Grammar School.

They looked good in the 1st game together, against a strong Wakefield team, all the girls played some good strong hockey and were unfortunate to be 3-0 down at half time, after a well worked short corner and a couple of good strikes on target from the Wakefield side. The end of the 1st half had seen Thirsk pressing strong and a disallowed goal, all looking good for the 2nd half, and the half time mood was all positive with great moral and team spirit. The girls went out with good positive attitudes and continued to press the Wakefield defence hard, Annabel Morland putting any loose ball from the opposition under immediate pressure and the rest of the team taking the lead from this pushing forward. Unlucky not to get a goal in the 2nd half. Final Score 4-0 Wakefield.
2nd game against Leeds Adel, saw Thirsk get an early goal from a good open break and well placed shot from Megan, excitement all round and Adel not looking to keep up with the pace of the forward line. A few more through passes to Annabel could have seen Thirsk dominate the score line, but girls just hanging on to the ball a little too long and getting dispossessed in mid field. Adel used this opportunity to press forward and get the equaliser. Final score 1-1
All to play for in the final game against Sheffield, Thirsk were the much stronger side and opened the pitch out well and scored very early in the game. This was the continuation throughout the whole game, Thirsk dominating and getting the ball through high to the CF, all the girls hungry for the ball and knowing goals were what was needed to get them through to the next round of the competition. Final score 5-1 to Thirsk.
Is this enough to get them through to the next round, as the score on the opposite pitch also had a bearing on whether the girls go through or not. Still not sure, waiting for the final results to be inputted and the decision to be made.
