Being the first season in which the girls have competed in the Yorkshire Youth Hockey League it has been very exciting, from learning how many layers of clothes to wear and how much hot chocolate to bring to making really good team mates and experiencing that winning feeling.
The girls have great team spirit and are eager to play games; they have become much closer over the season. (Katie Wilkinson travelled back from London after a 6 Nations game late on a Saturday night so she didn’t miss the tournament Sunday morning!) Their friendship has improved their communication as a team and ultimately improved their game.
Being part of a squad, the majority have all taken turns in being goalkeeper. All the girls get on and play at tournaments without any hesitation with regards positions or taking their turn as sub, which certainly makes managing the team an easier job.
All the girls work hard in training and listen well to advice. With this in mind, the most improved player is Liberty Laverick.
Skills are improving as well as fitness. I nominate Lucy Simenacz as player of the season, although she may sometimes be out of position, she has the most wonderful desire to win, confidence to score goals and strength to defend if our team don’t have the ball.
During the tournaments we have lost, drawn and won matches. Thank fully the majority have been wins which has meant we have been promoted within the league. A fantastic well done to all the Cougars. I would also like to mention Pippa and Lottie Brown and Evelyn Dodds who played two tournaments with us before being introduced to the Dolphins, well done.
A great season of hockey, we look forward to taking on Chapeltown A team next time out!
