U12 boys win promotion.

U12 Boys YYHL 15th January

Thirsk did themselves proud today in what proved a very tight and close fought Division B. As requested, they were quick out of the blocks and did not let Bradford settle into their game. Two goals from Joe Tart settled the match and the first 3 points were on the board. The next game was a tough test and the 2 nil score line in Wakefield’s favour could have been worse to be fair. That said, there were glimpses of brightness and the lads did not give up. Some brave goalkeeping and defending from Jack D and Deacon kept the score down. Our next opponents were Doncaster and in this game some lovely flowing hockey was played against a good Doncaster side. I think we edged it but sadly the deadlock remained unbroken and the game ended nil-nil. Thirsk started strongly against Kingston-upon-Hull and looked like taking all 3 points (following a Joe Tart goal) until the defence got a little forward thinking leaving their own goal exposed; Joseph was busy showboating with keepie-uppies, trying to lob their keeper! Hull were grateful of the gap they left behind and scored the equaliser in a game that ended 1-1. We were left to rue our chances and reflect on how we might defend a little better! Then came our old rivals York whom we always have a good tussle with. Today was to be our day though as Joe Tart and Jack Foxley combined to score two sublime goals (one each) sealing a 2 nil win. Having not kept a track of all the results I was unsure of how that left us in the league. Watching the last fixture, I thought we needed Wakefield to win to keep us in Div B. How wrong I was……
Wakefield beating Doncaster resulted in PROMOTION to Division A!!!
Well done lads!
Every player played a part today including some who have stepped up from the B Team for the first time. Jack Foxley was rewarded for his tireless work in midfield with the Managers Player of the Day award whilst with a tally of 4 goals and a perfectly weighted through ball for Jack’s goal, Joe Tart deservedly earned the Players’ Player award.
Team was:
Jack Disbury (GK)
Joseph O’Gorman (C)
