Sunday 2nd December, the under 14 girls had a dry afternoon at Thirsk to take on Driffield, Chapeltown and Wakefield.

The first game of the afternoon against Chapeltown saw them run away with an 8-0 victory. Goals by Jess (3), Josie (2), and 1 each to Connie, Violet and Ruby. The ball hardly came into the Thirsk half and so Emelia in goal had a very quiet game; “I felt like sitting down.” Was her comment. The second game against Driffield seemed to show a different team. The passing was not as crisp, the marking a bit slack and they did not have as many chances to score. The game was a lot more even and finished 0 – 0. It was a talking up break, to get the combinations back and the concentration. A two game break meant the last game was a must win against Wakefield who had won both their game. It seems that the second game had been just one of those occasions, because the girls came out on fire and had scored within the first minute. Three more goals followed without reply. What a difference. Everything from the first game was back even stronger. Passing, marking, possession, all carried out to the frustration of the Wakefield team. The defence worked hard when they had to and cleared the ball wide and hard when needed. Wakefield did have chances but all were well cleared. One proud coach at the 4 – 0 result. Goals by Jess (2), and one each to Josie and Violet. Promotion calling. Team were Emilia in goal, Ruby, Jemma, Dora back three; Isabella, Jemima, Tallulah, Connie across the middle; Violet, Josie and Jess front three. Izzy and Lucy-Mae were the super subs. Did not get as much play as they should have done, but when asked slotted in to various positions. Finally a big thanks to Emilie Ramsden for support and umpiring. Made the coach’s job a lot easier.
