A tough third game for the Thirsk saw us drawn against Wakefield. Having seen their team line up, we knew it was going to be a tough game as their team was predominately made up of PC & AC players. The coached tweaked the team positions with Tom O'Mahoney switching to left wing back. The team knew it was going to be big ask to beat Wakefield, but we started really positively passing well and keeping possession. Wakefield started to boss the game but some great defensive work from Owen Reed, Joe de Winter, Arthur Webster Jones, Jack Devlin, Tom O'Mahoney backed up by the excellent Sam Ross Russell in goal kept them at bay. Some how we got the ball out to Callum Crisp who played an great long pass to Tom Crack who controlled the ball drove into the D and smashed a shot just past the post, after this Wakefield made sure they left someone back to watch the counter attack. They continued to press and despite the sterling work by our defence they scored but it had taken them ten minutes to get a goal. The game continued very much the same way with them attacking and us defending resolutely. At one point we had 9 our players in our 23 defending with Connor Wilkinson and Matty Raynor getting in some last ditch tackles to also help out the defence. They eventually scored two more and the game finished 3-0 to Wakefield. Our coach had been chatting with the Wakefield coaches during the game and they had commented on how well Thirsk had played and how focused they were as a team and defended so well. Despite the result the players should be really proud of their performance against one of the best teams in Yorkshire.
